Moody Parrots

Parrots at Moody Gardens

Parrots at Moody Gardens

In April 2008, I enjoyed a trip to Moody Gardens in Galveston for the first time, and what a treat it was!  Inside the beautiful Rainforest Pyramid, my friend, my mother and I saw so many beautiful tropical birds that were allowed to fly freely inside the pyramid.  These two beautiful blue parrots especially caught my eye, and I enjoyed watching and photographing them for several minutes.  I took many great photos here, and I’m so happy that I did.

On September 13, 2008, just five months after our visit, Hurricane Ike hit Galveston and did a great deal of damage to Moody Gardens and the Rainforest Pyramid.  The Rainforest Pyramid did not reopen again until April 2009.  Much of the wildlife survived, although sadly, about 5% did not.

I will always cherish our visit to this special place and look forward to visiting again in the future at some point.  I highly recommend that anyone visiting the area put this place on their priority list to see, too.

I do not know what kind of parrots these are, but I will happily update this post if anyone can help with this identification.  I just hope they were among the many that survived the hurricane.
