Great Horned Owl in Texas
In April 2012, we visited Caprock Canyons State Park in the Texas Panhandle over Easter weekend with a large group of our family members for a weekend camping trip in our RVs for the very first time. We had such a fun and memorable time together while cooking out, hiking and just spending time together while observing the true reason for the holiday together, too.
One memorable experience for us from this trip was seeing a Great Horned Owl for the very first time. A woman came to the park that weekend and showed off some of her amazing birds of prey while educating both the kids and adults about them. This beautiful owl was one of her birds.
Our group went on a guided “owl walk” along one of the trails not long before sunset, and even though we failed to see an owl in the wild, we caught up with a rattlesnake on the trail instead. So, our guide opted to turn the group around and just see the handler’s animals before darkness settled in the campground.
This was such a beautiful bird! Other than seeing one in a zoo sometime, I doubt I will ever get this close to such a magnificent bird again.
